Chapman 9600 Gun screw driver kit

In today’s quick write up, we are going to do a ridiculously long term review of the Chapman 9600 Gun Screw driver kit. This kit has been used by us for over 30 years and in that time only two of the bits have broken and it was entirely not the equipment’s fault.  Based on the history of our use of these they seemed capable of miracles, came close but not quite.

You will see other offshore kits out there with way more custom bits for all sorts of different applications. These kits have hollow ground flat bits like the Chapman made in the USA kit but we are sure they make the bits out of the slag leftovers from the foundry. They can be brittle as glass to as soft as lead, crazy variation from garbage to garbage on both ends of the spectrum. Don’t fall for the advertising……

The kit we have, used to come as shown with a red vinyl wrapped steel case that didn’t have a latch and with only enough room for the bits that were supplied with the kit. The lack of a latch was a terrible idea, you always needed an elastic band around the case if you took it anywhere as it was so easy to spill. The new version comes in a blow molded plastic case with latch and has room for you to add bits, great improvement.

The kit as shown below now comes with 14 different slotted bits, 2 Phillips bits and one .050″ hex bit. I have attached the picture of the interior that shows the chart for reference.

The Chapman bit features are as shown and we can tell you, they are all they brag to be. Well worth the money for sure.

The term Hollow ground was used above, if you are uncertain what that is have a look at the bit in the picture below. Can you see how the concave radius up down to the tip will allow complete contact with the crew and not damage it, great product.
